Indiana Real Estate License Requirements

Indiana Sales Associate

  • be at least 18 years of age and a resident of the United States
  • has never, either directly or through a corporation or other entity, had a professional or business license suspended or revoked
  • have not been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony
  • have successfully completed courses in the principles, practices, and law of real estate, totaling eight (8) semester credit hours, or their equivalent, as a student at an accredited college or university or have successfully completed an approved salesperson course
  • Apply for a license by submitting the application fee prescribed by the commission and an application
  • Pass a written examination prepared and administered by the commission or its duly appointed agent
  • Submit not more than one year after passing the written examination

Continuing Education

To renew a broker or salesperson license each individual has to complete 16 hours the approved education requirement before the end of each 2 year cycle.  Sales Associate licenses expire on June 30 of even numbered years, and brokers expire June 30 of odd numbered years.  The 16 hours is broken down as 6 hours of REQUIRED training (in 3 different subject areas for 2 hours each), and 10 hours of elective training.

  • At least 6 hours in 3 different subjects from the list below. 
    • License and escrow law
    • Anti-trust law
    • Civil rights law
    • Agency law
    • Listing contracts and purchase agreements
    • Indiana Ethics and professionals standards (our Ethics course is 2hr "required", 3hr "elective"
    • Settlement procedures
    • Other courses approved by the commission
